A New Vista in My Creative Journey: Entering Digital Art in 2025

After more than thirty-five years of dedicated engagement with photography and nearly two decades of sustained practice in digital photography, I have now entered a new and significant phase of my creative journey: the field of Digital Art. This transition has emerged organically through reflection, experimentation and encouragement from individuals whose guidance and faith have been deeply meaningful to me. In particular, I wish to acknowledge the constant motivation and mentorship of my friend and senior artist, Shri Atul Padiaji of Vadodara, Gujarat, whose encouragement gave me the confidence to explore this medium with greater seriousness and depth. Equally important has been the role of my younger brother, Shri Jayanta Khan of Kolkata, who, through his persistent inspiration over more than a year, urged me to take this decisive step and begin a new chapter in my artistic life.
I also believe that this progression
is profoundly shaped by the grace and teachings of my guru, the legendary
artist and thinker K. G. Subramanyan (Mani Da). His philosophical openness and
pedagogical vision prepared my mindset to work fluidly across forms,
disciplines and platforms. His influence continues to guide my engagement with
art as a space of inquiry, experimentation and layered meaning, enabling me to
pursue creative expressions that are both innovative and emotionally intense.
I remain deeply grateful to many
senior artists, colleagues, friends and well-wishers who have supported and
encouraged this evolving practice. I would like to acknowledge senior artist
Swami Zen Vartan (Pune), my friend Ajay Jadhav (Pune), senior realistic painter
Pawan Kumar Tak (Jaipur), fellow photographer and friend Writwik Chakraborty
(Kolkata), senior painter and “Heritage Man of Pune” Shyaam Dhavalaey, senior
educationist and Professor Emeritus Dr. Subimalendu Bikas Sinha (Kolkata),
Akhand Pratap Singh (Gahmar) and several other friends and supporters whose
faith and dialogue have played an important role in shaping my engagement with
this medium. Their encouragement has strengthened my resolve to pursue digital
art with sincerity and long-term commitment.
My approach to digital art is deeply
personal, conscious and concept-driven. A defining principle of my practice is
that I work exclusively with my own photographic material as the foundational
source. Every image, form or visual fragment originates from my own camera and
lived observation. Likewise, the concepts, ideas, and visual narratives behind
each work are entirely my own. These works may be understood as editorial or
conceptual visual compositions, developed through careful digital
transformation and interpretative sensitivity. Rather than treating digital
tools as merely technical devices, I approach them as extensions of thought,
imagination and intuition.
My primary intention is to evolve a
distinct creative language rooted in awareness, responsibility, and artistic
intent. I am deeply drawn to visual storytelling — the articulation of ideas,
emotions and layered reflections through image-based narratives. My works often
explore spiritual, social, mystical, philosophical and psychological
dimensions, translating inner contemplations into visual metaphors. Through
digital transformation, photography moves beyond documentation and enters a
space of symbolic resonance and imaginative possibility.
The creative process frequently
involves intensive manipulation, layering, reconstruction and re-contextualization
of photographic elements. These interventions allow the image to transcend its
original referential nature and evolve into a new visual language. The outcome
is not merely an altered photograph, but a re-imagined image of subject that
carries conceptual depth and emotional charge. This process enables me to
engage with ambiguity, abstraction and metaphor while maintaining a strong
connection to lived reality.
All the works presented here have
been created during the year 2025 and represent my early explorations into the
domain of digital art. Throughout this period, I have actively shared these
works with peers, fellow artists, and mentors to understand their responses,
critiques, and suggestions. The feedback I have received has been highly
encouraging and affirming, with strong recommendations to develop this
direction as an independent and sustained platform within my broader visual art
practice. Coming from individuals who have closely followed my long engagement
with photography, painting, sculpture, collage, installation (both traditional
and video-based) and filmmaking, their response has been particularly
meaningful in strengthening my confidence and clarity.
A significant milestone in this
journey has been receiving my first formal institutional recognition from
AIFACS, which I consider a meaningful encouragement at this formative stage.
Nevertheless, I firmly believe that my earliest and most enduring source of
appreciation has always been my friends, well-wishers, students and viewers.
Their continued support, dialogue, and belief in my work inspire me to
experiment further, refine my vision, and pursue innovation with integrity.
I warmly invite viewers to engage
with these works by sharing their thoughts, reflections, suggestions and
creative insights. Such interactions are invaluable in helping me sharpen my
approach and deepen my understanding as I continue to explore the expanding
possibilities of digital art as a contemporary, expressive and evolving medium.
